Journal of progress--June 28-July 5
We ended last week on June 28th but after we posted, we had such terrific winds that we took more pictures. We've heard that in Eureka, the winds were up to 88 miles an hour.
It blew the bird feeder one way and then the wind would shift to the other side. Those little black dots are seeds flying out.
It ended up completely emptying out the bird feeder, which had been nearly full when the wind started..
In calm weather, our next door neighbor's flag pole will align with the stove pipe on the house beyond it. With two flags and the strong wind, it is pulled way off.
It tore the tarp over our cabinets being stored outside. Hopefully we get them in before more storms.
The bolts screw into Tee nuts inserted into the back side of the wood.
The bottoms of the gates fasten to the balcony with separate slide bolts.
While he was putting in so many bolts and tee nuts, Don decided to strengthen the corners of the gate.
Having got that out of the way, it was time to paint the ceiling downstairs. The texturing previously done last week shows through and looks nice. Crown moulding will finish off the corners.
After painting all day, Don is tired, and covered with paint.
Don is checking out the water level in the main tank. We'll add some more and see if it holds.
First we have to remove the algae build-up in the water truck tank. Don can fit in the tank (barely) but cannot dump his bucket, as it won't fit through the access portal with Don standing in it. So he has to fill the bucket with algae water, the pass the bucket up through the portal to Barbara, standing in the back of the truck. She dumps it over the side, then passes the empty bucket back to Don. When all the algae has been removed, Don has to wash the inside of the tank with bleach water, while trying not to get any in his eyes, or to breathe the fumes. You don't want to do this on a hot day. A hot, sweaty, miserable job.
Finally, we could drive to Eureka and fill the tank. If you over-fill the tank, you'd better be mighty quick with the hose, as it delivers LOTS of water, REAL FAST. Yeah that's the tank Don was inside of. Note the lack of algae.

We lost a branch off our apricot tree. You can see the apricots on it.

A neighbor is tearing down an old mining shack to build a weekend cabin. Don received permission to add a few wheelbarrows of construction debris to his pile. It sure was heavy!
More work on the balcony. The top rail of the front balcony gates is held in place by a board spanning both gates, attached to the gates with bolts.
