Journal of Progress--September 14-September 20

 Under these tarps is top soil.  The plan is to build grow boxes for a garden next year.  Our soil here is truly horrific.  We purchased this top soil and had it delivered from Nephi.  Barbara then covered it with tarp pieces and weighted them down with rocks so the wind doesn't blow it all away before it can be used as projected.


Don continues to lay finish floor in the "Great Room" downstairs. 

Don continues laying flooring around the kitchen island. If he's perfectly aligned, the flooring will match edges on both sides of the island when he gets past the end.

Working on the stove with the help of our bishop and our former bishop. Still not ready to use.

Trying to get the bathroom wall ready for the dryer. Need to install the dryer vent and add another outlet that won't be hidden by the dryer, for things like a hair dryer,, night light, etc..

   Monday, May 1, 2017--The task of today was to move out of our daughters house, take appropriate items to the thrift store, others to our storage unit, and others, move to Mammoth in a daughter's trailer.  This was all accomplished.  Don and neighbor Pat built a a frame of PVC pipe in the basement. Tuesday, May 2, 2017 We set ourselves up for postal service in Eureka.  Don and pat put a plastic covering over the frame.  They off loaded the trailer.  We drove to American Fork< Utah which is an hour away. Don had a tool reserved there he needed to pick up.  Barbara purchased fresh vegetables and fruit to go with an earlier purchase of dry foods.  Wednesday, May 3, 2017 Barbara stayed behind at the bed and breakfast in Eureka and organized the good and our belongings in the Zinc room.  At noon we went to a luncheon at the Senior Center. Journal of Progress--July

Saturday, July 1, 2017 Don continued working on his forms for the footing of our missing foundation wall. Sunday, July 2, 2017 Went to church. Worked on our respective family history projects.  We ate outside.  It is getting way too hot to be in the trailer in the afternoon and evening.  We tried to do some bird identification of birds that came to our feeder. Monday, July 3, 2017 Don finished the form for the foundation. Tuesday, July 4, 2017 Don worked on finishing the braces for the footing.  Then we took a drive on the road going west of Mammoth to see where it went. It was a lot like "The Bear Went Over The Mountain".  All that we could see was the other side of the mountain, one sheep camp but no sheep but we did see a lot of Angus cows.  We saw a reservoir where the pipe that goes through the dam has many big spurting leaks in it.  Don kept saying he was going to turn back at 10 miles, then 20 miles.  I said if we kept going...

Building an Outhouse

The trailer we are living in does have a toilet but to empty it, once a week or so Don dumps it's contents into a bucket and dumps it down the outhouse.  We have chosen to use it minimally.  Don planned to build an outhouse from the outset.  The supports.  These are laid over a trench that we had to have dug for a pert test.  This is measuring the soil for sewage purposes.  The trench was to have gone down 13 feet but the rock became so hard at 8 feet, the guy digging the hole gave up.  Don and Pat had to cut the pieces for the outhouse at Pat's house as we had no electricity at the site yet.  Finished outhouse pieces, ready for construction.
