Thursday, November 15, 2018 Wasted day. Got up late. By the time I got to Mammoth, it was time to go to my appointment for my job interview as a security guard at the LDS Church Movie Set in Elberta. Got the job. Pays $12.00 per hour, part time. My schedule is Thursday midnight to 8:00 AM Friday, and Saturday midnight to 8:00 AM Sunday, a shift nobody wants. Easy duties. Watch a camera, once a shift drive around and check fences. Make sure the set is okay by walking around it every couple hours. Rest of the time I can read, write, play the guitar, etc. Log everything I do. Got back to the house and discovered the power was off. Tracked down the electrician. Turns out he had killed the power so his apprentices could work safely, and they had all gone to lunch. Went to lunch. Got back and started to insulate and the compressor died. Carpenters are coming tomorrow early, so I had to make an emergency trip to Provo to exchange it for a new comprressor. It was only two months old, a...

Time off!

Not working this week. I'm out of state, visiting a daughter, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Back on Tuesday.

Sunday, October 28, 2018 Haven’t written much the last two weeks. Finished the stairs. Tarp in place in the balcony doorway. Helped the roofers. We now have more than half the roof covered in metal roofing. Looks GOOD. I’ve been extremely frustrated trying to buy siding. Home Depot doesn’t have what I want, and everybody else is unbelievably flaky. Spent an entire DAY at Lowe’s in Orem, trying to buy siding, and didn’t manage to buy ANY. Spent another entire day online and on the phone trying to order it from them, and STILL didn’t manage to buy any. Applied for their Pro credit card, and, after an hour and a half applying, was turned down. Back to Home Depot, even though the stuff they have isn’t exactly what I want. Spent another day online trying to buy siding from them, also without success. Example: I want the upper corner of the gables to be sided in fake cedar shakes, with scalloped edges. Home Depot has something they call, “Cedar Dimensions Round Cut 24 in. Polypropyl...

Monday, October 15, 2018 Our carpenters worked hard all day long. It is such a blessing for us to have them and so random to have found them. They work well together, are willing to accept token wages, and they do such a good job. They finished the west side of the house and moved the scaffolding to the east side and continued working. We are fortunate for the man carpenter's height. He can reach things no one else can. They put the scaffolding back together and kept working.  In the meantime, Don was making a channel for wire upstairs. Tuesday, October16, 2018  We went up to a friend's cabin and got some poles Don is going to use to build his wood shed.  Don is using a lever to move the heavy metal roofing enough that the scaffolding will fit around it when the time comes.   The carpenters came in the early afternoon and worked until they had the east side of t...
